GWBC® South Carolina POP (Power of Partnering) Event Delivers Insights, Connections, and Entrepreneurial Excellence

The Greater Women’s Business Council (GWBC®) South Carolina POP event brought together small businesses, corporate leaders, and supplier inclusion professionals for a day filled with learning, networking, and business-building opportunities. Designed to encourage attendees to lean in, learn, and engage, the agenda focused on gaining valuable insights into Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Intellectual Property, building new professional relationships, supporting participants in the Perfect Pitch Competition, and strengthening connections during the Meet & Greet session.

The event was preceded by a hospitality hour at the Milliken Guest House, where attendees enjoyed meaningful conversations and relationship-building opportunities in a welcoming environment. Special thanks to the Milliken team, led by Kathy Vezina, Senior Sourcing Manager, Supplier Engagement, and Carey Lapidus, Corporate Director, Hospitality, for their outstanding hospitality and for serving as gracious hosts throughout our time at Milliken & Company.

A highlight of the program was an engaging presentation from Bethany Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Milliken. Bethany provided an excellent introduction to the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence and shared thought-provoking insights on how AI is influencing business decision-making and shaping the future of work.

Keynote speaker Attorney Doug Lineberry of Maynard Nexsen, P.C. delivered an insightful and timely presentation on the evolving relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property. As a seasoned intellectual property attorney with extensive experience in patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution, as well as intellectual property litigation, Doug provided valuable guidance on how businesses can navigate the opportunities and challenges AI presents while protecting their innovations, brands, and creative assets.

Attendees were fully engaged throughout the keynote, gaining practical knowledge and experiencing several “aha” moments as Doug explored the impact of AI on intellectual property rights and ownership. His presentation highlighted important considerations for small businesses, including safeguarding proprietary information, protecting intellectual assets, and understanding the legal implications of using AI-driven technologies. Participants left with actionable insights and a greater awareness of how to leverage AI responsibly while protecting the value of their businesses and ideas.

The excitement continued during the Perfect Pitch Competition, facilitated by Tammy Cohen, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of InfoMart, GWBC® Board Director, and Forum Chair. The competition showcased the innovation, passion, and determination of small businesses while giving participants an opportunity to present their companies before an experienced panel of judges.
