Greater Women's
Business Council

Empowering and educating women business enterprises

About GWBC®

What is GWBC®?

Founded in 2000, the Greater Women’s Business Council (GWBC®) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a trusted regional partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). As a thirdparty certifier, GWBC® delivers a worldclass certification process that rigorously vets womenowned businesses for procurement opportunities with major corporations and government entities.

GWBC® serves a region experiencing one of the fastest-growing concentrations of women-owned businesses in the country. To fuel this momentum, we provide small businesses with education, resources, access to funding, innovative networking opportunities and direct connections to corporations seeking diverse suppliers across Georgia and the Carolinas.

Each year, GWBC® achieves an average 14% increase in certified women-owned businesses — evidence of our continued growth, impact and relevance. Our mission remains steadfast: to empower small businesses, with a special focus on women-owned enterprises, through certification, education, access to capital and mentorship.

GWBC® was launched with the support of founding corporate members Delta Air Lines and UPS, whose early investment helped establish the organization as a leader in supplier development and inclusion.

Our mission is to advance, promote, and advocate for small businesses — especially women-owned firms — through certification, education, mentoring and corporate partnerships across Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, three of the nation’s fastest-growing states for women-owned business development.

Certifications

What is a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) and why do you need certification?

A Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) is a business that is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by one or more women. Certification — especially through a nationally recognized organization like WBENC — provides corporations with the verified assurance they need when reporting and fulfilling their supplier inclusion commitments.

Why Certification Matters — Especially for Corporations

Corporations rely on verified supplier diversity data.

Certification gives them:

  • Credible proof that a business is truly womenowned, meeting internal compliance standards and external reporting requirements.
  • Confidence in their supply chain, knowing they are partnering with businesses that have been thoroughly vetted.
  • Accurate documentation for federal, state and corporate supplier inclusion goals.
  • A trusted mechanism to identify qualified womenowned suppliers for procurement opportunities.

Without certification, corporations cannot count a business toward their supplier inclusion goals — even if the business is genuinely womenowned because they must rely on validated, auditable data.

Why Certification Matters for Businesses

For womenowned and small businesses, certification opens doors to:

  • Access to corporate and government procurement opportunities
  • Visibility in national supplier databases used by major corporations
  • Educational programs, mentorship and capacitybuilding resources
  • Networking with decisionmakers and other diverse suppliers
