When you hear the word “champion,” what comes to mind? A winning sports team? A person who influenced your life or career? Or perhaps a leader who selflessly made a difference in the lives of so many?
When I think of a champion, I think of Pamela Prince-Eason, former President of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). I also think of the many incredible women-owned businesses in this network—businesses that collectively contribute billions to the U.S. economy.
It was one of the most shocking moments when I received the news of Pam’s passing—just days after she and the WBENC team hosted one of the most successful national conferences for women business owners and the corporations that champion them. While I’m still processing this profound loss, I’ve found comfort in remembering the last time I saw her, just days earlier— smiling and laughing as we celebrated the end of another successful event. These are the moments I will forever cherish. Despite the many questions that remain, my faith reminds me that heaven simply couldn’t wait for her.
As we honor a true champion—not only of women—but of all diverse suppliers, including those owned by minorities, veterans, business disability inclusion, and small business owners, it’s now up to us to carry the torch she so gracefully bore.
She met the challenges of this ecosystem head-on and elevated the voices of diverse businesses with strength and purpose. Now, that responsibility—and opportunity—belongs to you.
Let us honor her legacy by continuing the work, raising our voices, and championing one another.
